Nota wydawnicza:

Criticizing Art: Understanding the Contemporary, Sec8nd Edition, helps students of art and art history better understand and appreciate contemporary art by studying the principles of art criticism and applying them to contemporary forms of American art. This book provides a framework for critically considering contemporary art through describing, interpreting, evaluating, and theorizing.

■ This new edition contains 20 full-page color reproductions, a new section on critics and the art market, and a new section on the history of art criticism.

■ The diverse perspectives of today’s critics such as Suzi Gablik, Jeremy Gilbert-Rolkfe, Dave Hickey, Hilton Kramer, Rosalind Krauss, Linda Nochlin, and Robert Storr on the work of Michael Ray Charles, Janet Fish, Agnes Martin, Bill Viola, Kara Walker, Fred Wilson, and many other contemporary artists help readers develop their own critical positions.

■ Chapter 2 offers clear definitions of modernism, postmodernism, and feminism, enabling readers to understand the critical milieu in which twentieth-century critics have been operating.

■ The discussion of Chapter 6 is devoted to writing and talking about contemporary art. This chapter leads readers through the process of preparing thoughtful, well-constructed critical analyses, and includes two student papers that provide useful examples of the principles discussed throughout the text. Guidelines for constructive group criticism are also included.
