Nota wydawnicza:
Mail-order merchandising was already an important factor in clothing sales in America in the early 20th century, profiting from the desire for fashionable attire by shoppers unable to visit the great emporiums of the big cities. One of these merchandisers was Perry, Dame & Co., a New York firm featuring clothing for women and children. This reprint of a rare original copy of their spring and summer catalog for 1917 provides a unique document authenticating fashions popular across. America in the World War I era.

Over 700 detailed illustrations accompany advertising copy describing a wide array of women and children’s clothing and accessories. Women’s apparel includes afternoon and evening dresses of silk messaline, embroidered voile, taffeta silk and pongee; middy blouses and wash skirts; stylish coats of serge and wool velour; raincoats of rubberized Jacquard silk and pure linen dusters; suits, sweaters, hats, gloves, lounging robes, nightgowns, lingerie, corsets, hosiery and shoes and more.

For children, there are charming dresses and suits for boys and girls from toddlers to teenagers, plus accessories to keep them well-dressed and well-shod for every occasion. The children’s fashions are of particular interest because authentic descriptions and prices of such clothing are hard to find.
Fashion and costume designers, social historians and anyone with an interest in fashion and Americana will find this inexpensive edition of the Perry, Dame & Co. catalog an invaluable reference and resource. But it is also simply a pleasure for any fashion lover to browse through and enjoy as a window on the styles of a bygone day.
